"Nuad Bo Rarn" is the Traditional massage of Thailand or Thai Massage for short. Thai massage has been called passive Yoga because of the vigorous stretching combined with palm and thumb pressing along energy pathways to stimulate your natural energy flow. The ten "Sen" or energy pathways follow the form and structure of the body. Energy gets trapped in the physical structure and tissues because of stiffness and immobility. Thai massage releases both superficial and deep tensions to allow for a natural energy flow. Thai Massage is done through clothing on a soft futon on the floor. Palming and thumbing are done in a rhythmic, rocking-like manner that soothes the nervous system and disarms the joints. It is wonderful for anyone who pushes their body to physical extremes, laborers and athletes especially. Your body will be moved in ways you may not have thought possible. Thai Massage is invigorating. It can help you recover faster from physical exertion and help prevent injuries by maintaining flexibility in your joints and tissues. A session lasts for 1- 11/2 hours,( although a typical session in Thailand can last from 2-1/2 to 3 hours). Once a week treatments are adequate and become less frequent as your condition improves. There may be some soreness within the first 24 hours after treatment but you will also experience a remarkable increase in range of motion.
Thai Massage has it's roots in ancient Ayurvedic medicine. Tradition says it was given to the world by a physician in India named Shivago Komarpaj who was a contemporary of the Buddha. His teachings were initially handed down in sacred texts which meant that Thai massage was practiced primarily by monks in the temples. Many of the texts were destroyed in the 1700's when the Burmese overran Thailand. Little more is known about it's history. Today Thai massage is handed down to a wider population in an oral tradition. It is no longer just the domain of monks and scholars. There are distinctive Northern and Southern styles. The Northern more gentle style is practiced at Massagecraft. It is only gentle in contrast to the more vigorous style practiced in the South around Bangkok. Thai Massage stands on it's own as a system of medicine.
